  • Invitation:  The conference targets to discuss the current processes of European integration, together with analysing the challenges and opportunities the EU faces in the coming decade.

During the conference plenary speeches of experts of international reputation will be combined with interactive sections of debate.

The conference is jointly held with the Annual Meeting of the Hungarian Political Science Association.

The conference works in a panel–section structure: the major topics are represented in panels, which accommodate maximum 3 sections each, depending on how many scholars, participants are interested in the given sub-topic taken by the dedicated section.

Each section consists of one session of 1h30 minutes, including a maximum of 5 paper presentations. A presenter may only deliver one talk. S/he may, however, also convene or participate in a plenary session, or section.

Proposals for sections can be sent to the panel organizers until January 25, 2015.

  • Call for Papers:

Panel organizers are responsible for the assessment of presentation proposals. Deadline for submission of presentation proposals: February 28, 2015. The organizers will then inform all applicants about the acceptance or rejection of their proposals until March 25, 2015. Those accepted will be required to submit their full-length papers prior to the conference, until June 1, 2015. Those not submitting the full-length paper will not be considered for the final conference publication (an edited volume of selected papers).

Please, carefully read the following instructions: When submitting your paper proposal, please, indicate:

  • Your name, first name, email and institutional affiliation;
  • The topic of the panel you intend to contribute to;
  • The title of your presentation (in English or Hungarian);
  • An abstract of your presentation in English or Hungarian (maximum 1500 characters).

The panel organizer will inform you by email of the acceptance or rejection of your proposal. If your proposal is accepted: The organizer of the panel will forward the title and abstract of your presentation to the Conference Organizing Committee for confirmation.   • Conference Venue:

The conference will be held on June 5-6, 2015 at the University of Pécs, in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology, Pollack Mihaly (7624 Pécs, Boszorkány út 2.) For the participants will be recommended some hotels or dormitories in Pécs situated very close to the conference venue, or within easy walking distance from the city center.

  • Registration:

In order to confirm your participation to the conference, you must pay your registration fee.

The registration fee is 50 €.

For MPTT members: 35 €.

For students:  20 €,  which does not include the conference dinner. In case a student participant

wishes to take part in the dinner, the fee is 35 €.

The registration fee covers the participation at the conference, the two buffet lunches, the conference dinner and the accession to all conference materials.

  • Travel information:


The easiest way to reach Pécs is through the route 6 and the M6 ​ ​motorway. If you don’t have your own car, you can join someone:  the carpool services are popular among students from across the country.

Useful links:

All participants arriving at Liszt Ferenc International Airport are advised to take the airport the autobus NO. 200 E (Blue). This is the least expensive and most reliable service. Metropolitan bus No. 200E (blue) leaves from the terminal building (Terminal Hall) for Kõbánya-Kispest station, where you may take metro line No. 3 (blue line) to the centre of the city.



In Pécs there is  one railway stations, located in the city center. From Budapest and the towns near the Budapest-Pécs railway line, the city can be approached by Inter City trains having names related to the region like Sopianae, Dráva, Baranya, Tettye, Tenkes, PTE, Mecsek, Tubes and Zengõ. Moreover, UP has a train named after it, going to Budapest at 11:14 and returning at 17:45, called the PTE IC. Pécs is one of the big railway hubs of the region, therefore many other big cities and smaller towns have a direct railway connection to it. The railway station is located in a walking distance from the city centre (in Hungarian the “Fõpályaudvar”), making the transportation in the city easier for visitors. From the Railway station( Fõpályaudvar)  you can reach easiliy the conference place (Damjanich utca) by the bus number 36.

Dr. habil Tuka Ágnes egyetemi docens – a Központ vezetője – több Jean Monnet pályázat nyertese. Fő kutatási témája az Európai Parlament és az integráció politikatudományi vetülete.

Dr. Szilágy István DsC egyetemi tanár. Fő kutatási területe a medditerán országok és az Európai Unió viszonya.

Dr. habil Pap Norbert egyetemi docens a Balkán , az iszlám helye és szerepe az unióban kutatója.

Dr. Tarrósy István egyetemi adjunktus Afrikával, az Afrikai Unióval és az Európai Unió politikai kultúrájának elemzője.

Dr. Schmidt Andrea egyetemi adjunktus kutatási területe Kelet-Közép-Európa.

Summary of relevant skills and experience (Limit 1000 characters per person)

 Ágnes Tuka Full-time associate professor for Political Science, Faculty of Humanities. Head of the Department of Political Studies between 2003 and 2012. Under her leadership, the department could launch both BA- and MA-level programmes in Political Science and will launch a new programme (both BA- and MA-level) in International Studies in September 2012. National EU-expert who has extensively written on European integration in Hungary. She co-ordinates a number of grant schemes and organises conferences, scientific events on an annual basis. In 2006 she was granted with the Jean Monnet Chair Ad Personam. She will be head of the Centre of Excellence, and therefore, academic co-ordinator in the project.
 István Szilágyi He is a Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He is full professor at the Department of Political Geography and Regional Development, Institute of Geography at University of Pécs. He is an expert on European Studies and International Studies. Previously he worked at the University of Pannonia, Veszprém, where he was the Dean of Faculty of Modern Philology and Social Sciences and Director of the Institute of Social Sciences and International Studies, and Head of the Centre for European Studies. He was responsible for MA in International Studies. At present, he gives numerous courses on the Cohesion Policy or the Institutional Reforms and Enlargement of the EU, and the EU and the Mediterranean World for students at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Pécs and other Hungarian and foreign universities. He is teaching staff member and will be one of the module leaders in the project.
 Andrea Schmidt Assistant professor for Political Science, Department of Political Studies, Faculty of Humanities. From 1999 to 2001 project co-ordinator at the Institute of European Studies at the Faculty of Law, University of Pécs. Since 2003 ERASMUS co-ordinator at the Department of Political Studies. Since 2004 she has been teaching incoming ERASMUS students. She specialises in Central European political structures and economic policy. She is teaching staff member and will be one of the module leaders in the project.
 István Tarrósy Assistant professor for Political Science, Department of Political Studies, Faculty of Humanities. Secretary and managing director of the Africa Research Centre of the University of Pécs, embedded in the structure of the department. He is founder, publisher and executive editor of the national journal Africa Studies and has expertise in book editing and publishing. He is an expert in international project management. He has a teaching experience of 9 years. He served/ves on various bodies on international relations, the latest assignment is alternate member of ECOSOC REX. He was director of the bid, then, management office of the European Capital of Culture Pécs2010 project. He is teaching staff member and will be one of the module leaders in the project.
 Norbert Pap Full-time associate professor for Political Geography, Faculty of Sciences. Head of the Department of Political Geography between 2004 and 2012. Under his leadership, the Institute of Geography could launch Balkan Studies and Studies in Geopolitics. He will take part in a new programme (both BA- and MA-level) in International Studies in September 2012. Nationally-known Balkan-expert who has extensively written on the European integration processes of the Western Balkans. He co-ordinates a number of research programmes and organises conferences, scientific events on an annual basis. He is teaching staff member and will be one of the module leaders in the project.
 Orsolya Oppe She is PhD-student at the Department of Political Studies. She will not be involved in teaching activities, but will be responsible for administrative tasks connected to the centre.
